Glenlake Real Estate
Picturesque Glenlake is an exclusive development up in the hills above Lake Austin, along the northwest border of Emma Long Metropolitan Park, close to Ranch Road 2222 West. Glenlake seems more remote from Austin than it actually is (although outside city limits, it’s only about 14 miles, or 25 minutes, from the heart of downtown), and it retains a wholesome, woodsy, out-in-the-country feel – with homes that define living in the lap of luxury, that is.
With 170 homes at present (with room for only 15 more to be built), Glenlake is a small, close-knit community notable for its family-friendly atmosphere. There is an active neighborhood association which hosts fun, informal events like a Halloween hayride, Easter egg hunt, and ice cream socials. And whether you enjoy tennis, cycling, gardening, or book discussions, there’s a club for you in Glenlake. Residents also receive a 10 percent across-the-board discount on all membership levels at the nearby River Place Country Club, featuring an 18-hole championship golf course created by former U.S. Open champion Tom Kite. River Place is a good match for Glenlake, as it’s just as friendly and family-oriented (it was voted “Best Family Club in Austin 2006” by Avid Golfer magazine), goes out of its way to offer plenty of children’s activities, and boasts a lively social calendar.
For further recreational opportunities, Glenlake is only a few miles from sparkling Lake Travis and its bounty of water-related activities.
Homes in Glenlake sell from about $350,000 to $1.5 million, with living space from 2500 to a huge 8000 square feet. Glenlake’s development has been shared between two well-known local firms, Banister Homes and Mark Gault Homes. Both companies are custom home builders and remodelers with deep roots in Austin and the Hill Country; both firms take great pride in their work, and have impressive portfolios of quality homes and satisfied customers to prove it. One look at Glenlake, however, should be proof enough for any interested buyers in this neighborhood!
Most properties feature desirable amenities like cathedral ceilings, formal living rooms, jetted tubs, and outside, plenty of shade from mature trees, along with spacious patios and porches. Many backyards border on the greenbelt or woods, further adding to the sense of peace and quiet that comes with living here. The higher-end properties are true architectural showcases with huge rooms, large in-ground pools, and spectacular panoramic views of the Hill Country. These special homes are ideal for entertaining.
Glenlake is part of the excellent Leander Independent School District. Residents’ children attend Laura W. Bush Elementary, Canyon Ridge Middle School and Cedar Park High School. CPHS is known for the quality of its academics, as well as its award-winning marching band, the Timberwolf Band.
Homeowners are served by the Glenlake Neighborhood Association, which charges only $75 annually for membership (check out their helpful and informative website at http://www.glenlakehoa.org/index.php5).
Visit Glenlake and you too might exclaim, “What a beautiful surprise!” But don’t wait too long – there are only so many homes here to go around.
