Jester Real Estate
It’s no joke: Jester is simply a great place to live and raise a family. But where is Jester, anyway?
Located up in the hills of northwest Austin, Jester (including various subdivisions such as Canyon Ridge, Jester Estates, Jester Point and Jester Farms) is a middle to upper-middle-class neighborhood with lots of green space (it borders a greenbelt), great views and a relaxed, family-friendly lifestyle. Priced from around $300,000 to upwards of $1,000,000, with from 2000 to 5000 square feet of living space, housing in the Jester area varies from modest ranch houses to large, elegant multistory homes.
Close to major arteries like 2222, Loop 360 (Capital of Texas Highway) and Mopac, Jester is equally convenient to downtown Austin and to the recreational delights of the Hill Country and the lakes, from Town Lake to Lake Buchanan and Lake Travis. The upscale Davenport Village and Arboretum shopping centers, along with many fine restaurants, are a short drive away, as are various golf courses and country clubs. If, like most Austinites, you like to get outdoors and enjoy nature as often as possible, numerous hike-and-bike trails and Lake Austin are practically in the neighborhood, and theBalcones Canyonlands Preserve, and the Hill Country and its lake system, aren’t too much farther away.
For about $22 per month, residents can belong to the Jester Club, a community clubhouse with a swimming pool, basketball court, tennis courts, playground and picnic area with barbecue grills.
Homes in the area date from the early 1980s to quite recently; though styles vary from traditional to modern, and custom homes are common in such developments as Jester Estates, the whole effect is remarkably coherent. As an illustration of the variety of housing you can find here, noted Austin-based custom home builders Lantana Homes recently completed a “green home” in Jester, which by their definition is one combining the beauty of a large home with the energy footprint of a smaller one. The home features energy-efficient appliances, energy-saving design, use of native plants in landscaping to conserve water, and use of environmentally friendly construction materials. Befitting the neighborhood, even typical mid-range homes in Jester tend to blend well with the natural landscape, including many mature shade trees on the properties and the woods surrounding them. Higher-end homes usually include luxury features such as gourmet kitchens, hardwood floors, jetted tubs, pools, spas, and gazebos, upscale appliances, and spacious grounds with exceptional landscaping and impressive views.
Of course, a home is about more than flooring and furniture. Jester is known locally for the friendliness and sociability of the neighbors (including the children) and the active neighborhood association, not to mention the residents’ love of nature and the unaffected, easy relationship they have with the beautiful Central Texas environment surrounding them.
Jester and Canyon Ridge are part of the Austin Independent School District, with Hill Elementary and Murchison middle schools feeding into the outstanding Anderson High School. St. Theresa’s Catholic School, a private school with education from pre-kindergarten through middle school, is also nearby.
