Lakewood Real Estate
Lakewood, including Lakewood Park and Lakewood Condominiums, is a stylish, hip neighborhood that couldn’t be better located for anyone who wants to make Austin their home. Residents of this neighborhood are ideally positioned to take advantage of the best that Central Texas has to offer. As desirable and convenient as Lakewood is, there are still some great values to be had for anyone who takes the time to investigate. If you’ve been looking around Austin for a while but have never heard of Lakewood, make a point of checking it out for yourself. We think you’ll be suitably impressed!
Located in north Austin near the intersection of loop 360 (North Capital of Texas Highway) and FM 2222, Lakewood is an established neighborhood with homes mainly built from the 1970s through the ‘90s. Varying widely in style and price, these homes sell from around $150,000 to $500,000, with 1500 to 3000 square feet of living space.
Lakewood is a charming, scenic place with a secluded, relaxing atmosphere, full of winding streets and culs-de-sac, shaded by mature oaks (some of them up to a century old) and other native trees. Whether the homes are older and extensively renovated/remodeled, or newer, spacious models, their owners take pride in both their dwellings and their neighborhood. Typical mid-range homes feature amenities like gourmet kitchens, premium construction materials, high ceilings, and spacious lawns with long porches (screened or open). Many homes back up onto the adjacent North Cat Mountain Greenbelt, which adds a great deal to the peaceful ambiance. Higher-end properties frequently boast great Hill Country views, saunas, cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors, gamerooms, sunrooms, extensive grounds with covered patios and gazebos, and much more. Local stone is extremely popular as a building material for both homes and patios, and residents place a premium on making sure their home blends in as much as possible with the surrounding landscape.
Austinites are noted for their love of and closeness to nature, and Lakewood residents enjoy their proximity to Bull Creek District Park (just across Loop 360) and Lake Austin, only minutes away. They also enjoy socializing with their neighbors at a community pool with tennis courts. The 13.43 acre North Cat Mountain Greenbelt, in the Bull Creek Watershed, is a popular getaway, and the Lakewood Playscape (7300 Lakewood Drive) is an ideal neighborhood park for spur-of-the-moment or regular family outings.
Whether it’s business or pleasure, Lakewood and Lakewood Park residents have little problem getting there. They’re just a few minutes’ drive from the upscale Arboretum shopping center in Great Hills, and within an easy commute of many large area employers such as Dell, IBM and Freescale. It’s only 10 to 15 minutes to downtown Austin, and even less to Lake Travis and its panoply of outdoor delights.
The neighborhood is served by the Lakewood Homeowners Association.
Depending on their address, residents’ children attend either Doss or Highland Park Elementary School, or Lamar or Murchison Middle School, in the Austin Independent School District. All high-school-age students attend the well-regarded Anderson High School, which is an International Baccalaureate (IB) School offering a challenging two-year educational program with an international slant in preparation for college.
