Pillar Custom Homes

Making Houses Homes

You don't need the word family or sons to make a family business. You don't even need more than one member of a family. What you do need is a history - a history of experience, of respectability and of tradition. You need to know that the person heading the business has been taught by his father the finest points of home building. At Pillar Custom Homes, you get just that.

Be sure that you are represented in your new home purchase. Find out about our buyer representation on new homes.

Craftsmanship

Michael A. Cohen grew up watching his own father, a skilled woodworker, create quality homes for customers. He took what he learned and worked to create Pillar Custom Homes. As he did so, he kept at the front of his mind, always, the most important lesson his father had imparted: "We are building homes, not just houses." He created a business recognizing that the structures he was creating weren't simply four walls and a roof but places where memories would be made, children would be born and life would occur. With that knowledge, he built a highly reputable business.

Each house is built with a combination of traditional craftsmanship and the latest trends, newest techniques, best materials and state-of-the-art technology. It is the perfect blend of old and new. Behind these techniques and materials are people with experience and knowledge. Michael himself has a degree in landscape architectural design from Purdue University and a master's degree in computer science from New York Institute of Technology. His team members have equally impressive credentials, and continuing education opportunities through the many homebuilding organizations allows them all to stay abreast of the latest and best in custom homebuilding.

The Building Process

When a client comes to Pillar Custom Homes, the first step in the process is an oration of the customer's dreams. Once the ideal home has been explained, reality steps in, and financing is discussed. How can this dream house become a real home given the financial limitations of the customer? With that determined, a site is selected, a design is finalized and construction begins. Throughout construction the client remains a part of the process, being routinely informed of the builders' progress and the anticipated timeframe. When the house is completed, it is with Michael's personal stamp of approval. He believes that each building reflects his reputation and pride, and so he builds with that in mind, wanting not only to create a home a family will love but also one that he will, too.

In 2004 it won in the Flintrock Showcase of Homes Best Unique Feature (pool and outdoor living) and Best Floor Plan. It is a company that does what it says. It is a company based in tradition and history with an eye to the future - a company that will for years to come carry on the beliefs and lessons of one man's father and make houses home.
