Standard Pacific Homes

A Big Company with Individual Ideas

Standard Pacific Homes is based in California and operates not only there and in Texas but also in Florida, the Carolinas, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada. The company has more than 1500 employees and more than 103,000 homes, having built more than 8,000 in 2007 alone. It is one of the nation's largest and most successful home-building companies, and its history explains why.

In 1965, two men, Arthur Svendsen and Ronald Foell, began Standard Pacific in Southern California. They had one goal in mind: to build homes that illustrated their love of community and the art of homebuilding. And that is exactly what they did. Over the next 40 years they established a reputation that few other homebuilding companies can match. They expanded from the Pacific shores to the Atlantic Coast, taking with them always their two core values: community and quality.

Community Involvement

Their love of community is evident today in the many projects they have taken on throughout the country. Although, there is not one in Austin, there are several in Charlotte, NC, Tampa, FL, and various locations throughout California. They include company involvement in fund raising walks, such as the Susan G. Komen 5-K for breast cancer; commitment to City of Hope, a medical research effort; and contributions to Habitat for Humanity, Joshua House and other similar organizations.

Commitment to Quality

Standard Pacific's commitment to quality is evident in the awards received. In 2006 and 2007, Fortune magazine named it one of the best 100 companies to work for.  From 1999 to 2003, Builder Magazine placed Standard Pacific on the Fast Track list. And in 2000, both the CEO and President of the company, Steve Scarborough and Michael Cortney, were inducted into the California Building Industry Hall of Fame. And those are just a few of the many awards given to Standard Pacific.

What is most telling, however, about Standard Pacific is the attitude they take toward the homes they build. They view the purchase of a home as one of the most important things you will ever do in your life, and so want you to be content with the choice you make when you choose them. Quality is not a question but a certainty. And your individual expression - what you want in a home - will be built into the design of the house. You are not going to enter into another cookie cutter development, but rather a development where you are one of many individuals who have made their house their home.

And do not think for a moment that since Austin is one of 31 metropolitan areas served by Standard Pacific you will not receive the best of the best. That's simply not true. The company gives equal value to every community, from their very first in California to their most recent acquisitions throughout the country. They have been in Texas since 1985, long enough to know that Texas, that Austin is a town not to be messed with. That its people deserve the very best, and that is what Standard Pacific aims to bring - nothing but the best.
