West Rim Real Estate
Imagine what it would be like to be living “the good life.” Whatever your personal vision of that is, when most people picture living the good life, Hill Country style, it might well resemble owning a home in a neighborhood like West Rim, on the west bank of Lake Austin, just northeast of West Lake Hills and only 10 minutes from downtown Austin – but a world apart. Opportunities to buy into West Rim are obviously limited, but if you’re in the market for a special home it would be well worth your while to investigate any such available prospect. (The Summit at West Rim, off Mount Larson, is adjacent to West Rim and is one of the Austin area’s most prestigious gated enclaves; Laguna Loma is a similar exclusive development right on the lake. This article may be taken to largely apply to The Summit and Laguna Loma as well as West Rim proper.)
West Rim is a small, established luxury development (less than 100 families) on either side of Westlake Drive (the community’s central artery) with homes priced from $400,000 to $3 million; living spaces range from 2500 to a huge 8000 square feet. Outdoor acreage spans from three-quarters of an acre to a sprawling three acres. The residences are extraordinary estates with every amenity buyers in this price range expect, and every one is unique in design to suit any taste.
Top-end construction materials, including much native stone, have been used to help bestow a sense of balance and harmony with nature, while making a grand statement about the kind of people who live there. From the first moment you approach the entrance of a West Rim home, you’ll be impressed by the grand scale as well as the grace and beauty of the surroundings. The landscaping is natural and abundant; many large, mature live oaks and other shade trees are much appreciated by residents for the way they grace the neighborhood and add to its character. Large decks and patios are common. Indoors, homeowners enjoy amenities like cathedral ceilings, huge fireplaces, top-end gourmet kitchens with center islands, hardwood floors, large decks and patios and much more.
Seclusion is available when you want it, but West Rim is also a child-friendly, close-knit neighborhood where residents socialize frequently, plan events and discuss local concerns together. The homes are also perfect for entertaining intimate or larger gatherings.
One of the most unique amenities residents enjoy is use of theWest Rim Homeowners’ Park, a gated two-acre park on Lake Austin with 24 covered boat slips, which can be rented for personal use on a yearly basis. The park also boasts courts for tennis, basketball, volleyball and horseshoe games, along with a large playscape and swing set for the kids, picnic tables, and an elegant gazebo, making it a perfect place for weekend relaxation or socializing with family or friends.
Homeowners’ children attend the outstanding Eanes Independent School District, widely acclaimed as one of Austin’s finest. Bridge Point Elementary, Hill Country Middle School and Westlake High School have all been recognized for their academic and athletic excellence.
