In short, it's one of the best places in which to indulge in the good life, Texas style. By definition, it's not for everybody, but those who choose Westlake life generally wouldn't consider living anywhere else.

The neighborhood is called Westlake Highlands. It's minutes away from Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, one of the finest spots in Austin for nature hikes and birdwatching. A few minutes to the north lies the Austin Country Club, an outstanding private club with a history stretching back to the 19th century. In addition to an 18-hole, 180-acre course designed in 1984 by Pete Dye, the club also features a large fitness center, a marina with 42 boat slips on Lake Austin, a heated outdoor swimming pool, and tennis courts. Austin Country Club is also known as the longtime home of the late Harvey Penick (1904-1995), a legendary golf instructor who created the annual invitational tournament named in his honor.
